In Gulf economies, the retail and hospitality sectors span multiple locations and are critical for national workforce integration. Yet, misconceptions and lack of visibility often deter Emirati, Saudi, and Qatari job seekers from seeing these industries as long-term career paths.
A Virtual Majlis, featuring national employees joining from their actual job sites—stores, hotels, restaurants—can bridge this gap beautifully by showcasing the authentic work environment, culture, and career potential.
Authentic Peer-to-Peer Dialogue
Job seekers hear directly from Emirati, Saudi, and Qatari staff—learn about daily challenges, growth, and success. Most importantly, employees join while on the job, allowing job seekers to see the real workplace environment. This fosters credibility and connection, breaking down stereotypes and reinforcing retail and hospitality as authentic career paths.Bridging Perception Gaps
These sectors often suffer from outdated views. The Majlis format highlights advancement in digital retail, guest experience, and leadership roles, encouraging national talent to explore and commit.Cultural Relevance & Shared Identity
Seeing peers from the same nation and mindset, engaged in meaningful work, makes the Majlis deeply relatable and inspiring.Employer Branding in Action
National employees become live brand ambassadors, reinforcing commitment to Emiratization, Saudization, and Qatarization goals within the organization.
UAE – Emiratisation
By 2024, the number of Emiratis in the private sector reached 131,000, exceeding the target of 75,000 set for 2026 under the NAFIS programme.
Despite progress, private-sector nationals represented just 0.34% of that workforce—a sign of ongoing opportunity.
From 2024, companies with 20–49 employees must hire at least one Emirati, rising to two by 2025—failure results in substantial penalties (AED 96,000 to AED 108,000).
Saudi Arabia – Saudization
Retail sub-sectors now require a 70% Saudization rate, up from just 30% in earlier years.
Historically, retail and wholesale Saudization improved from around 12.9% to 18.4%, while manufacturing saw similar gains in the early 2010s.
Qatar – Qatarization
Qatar aims for 50% national workforce in industry and energy, though earlier private-sector targets (20%) fell short.
Overall, Qatar’s national workforce comprised about 19% in 2022, with a policy goal to reach 20%.
Visibility of Authentic Work: Candidates see real environments—retail stores, hotel lobbies, kitchens, front desks—making the Majlis experience immersive and credible.
Scalable & Cost-Effective: Virtual platforms allow widespread participation across regions—connect dozens or even hundreds without venue logistical costs.
Enhanced Talent Attraction: National candidates connect with real colleagues rather than polished corporate reps—this drives deeper interest and commitment.
Brand Differentiation: Employers showcase nationalization efforts visibly, elevating their employer brand among job seekers.
Retention & Cultural Fit: Candidates enter with a realistic sense of the role and environment, improving long-term fit and reducing turnover.
